We’re proud to announce this year’s keynote speaker will be Mr. Marc Kai!
Marc is a PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering at NC State. He is a Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching (CoAT) graduate, inaugural PFL Ambassador and STEM and Writing Annual Partnership (SWAP) participant, Advisory Board member, and co-host at new graduate student orientation. In addition to presenting at several national and international conferences, he has a patent pending for his research in nanomedicine. In his free time, Marc enjoys competing in endurance events, volleyball, and cooking.
Come hear how PFL has impacted Marc’s graduate school career!
BEFORE THE CEREMONY: Complete the RSVP form by March 26th, 5:00pm. For MATP, PTP, and SWAP participants, your mentors will also receive an invitation from the Graduate School. We encourage you to contact your PFL program mentors and invite them to attend so that they may also be recognized for their hard work.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE: When you arrive, check in at the registration table so that we know you are present and can recognize you during the ceremony. Grab a bowl of Howling Cow ice cream and take a moment to meet other graduate students interested in professional development opportunities!
DURING THE CEREMONY: If you have completed the Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching (CoAT), Preparing the Professoriate (PTP), Mentoring and Teaching Practicum (MATP), STEM and Writing Annual Partnership (SWAP), or if you have participated in PFL Ambassadors in the 2013-2014 academic year, you will be recognized by Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor Warwick Arden and Interim Dean of the Graduate School Rebeca Rufty for your outstanding success. If you have completed multiple programs, you will be recognized once for each program. As you are recognized, you will have your photograph taken with University leaders.
AFTER THE CEREMONY: After the ceremony concludes, you will be able to pick up your certificate(s) at the registration table.
IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING THE CEREMONY: Complete the RSVP form so that we know how you would like your name to appear on your certificate(s). You will be able to pick up your certificate(s) the week of April 21-25 at the Graduate School, Centennial Campus, Research Building 3, second floor, between 9:00-1:00 & 2:00-5:00.
If you have mentored or worked with a student for the MATP, PTP, or SWAP programs during the 2013-2014 academic year, you will be recognized along with your student. You will receive an invitation via email from the PFL staff. We encourage you to RSVP as soon as possible. Contact your student(s) to make plans to attend the ceremony, since your role as mentor has been central to the success of these outstanding graduate students. During the ceremony, you will have your photograph taken with your student(s) and University leaders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the RSVP required?
Yes. You can RSVP here. All PFL participants receiving a certificate are required to complete the RSVP form, even if you do not plan to attend the ceremony. We will use the RSVP information on your certificate.
What should I wear?
Attire is business casual. Participants and their mentors, if applicable, will be photographed with representatives from the University’s administrative leaders when they are recognized for their accomplishments.
I’m driving to Hunt Library. Where can I get a parking pass, and where should I park?
Parking passes are only available for invited guests who are not NCSU students, faculty, or staff. If you are external to NC State, you will be able to request a parking pass through the RSVP form, and NCSU Department of Transportation will contact you directly with your request. We encourage everyone to carpool if possible, as parking is limited on campus. We recommend guests park in the Oval West Parking Deck, which is “C” parking, on Partners Way. Pay lot rates on campus are $5 a day and are non-reimbursable.
I have heard there is construction on campus. Will this affect my trip?
No! Don’t worry – Hunt Library is completed, and most of the construction on Centennial Campus is removed from that area.
Am I allowed to bring guests?
Participants are allowed to bring two guests. You will be prompted to provide your guests’ names in the RSVP form. For MATP, PTP, and SWAP participants, these guests do not include your mentor. All mentors will be invited directly by PFL staff.
If I am not attending the ceremony, how do I get my certificate?
For those not attending the ceremony, certificates will be available for pick-up at the Graduate School on Centennial Campus in Research Building 3, 2nd floor, the week of April 21-25, from 9:00-1:00 & 2:00-5:00
Will there be refreshments?
Yes. NC State’s own Howling Cow ice cream will be served as guests arrive. WolfTracks (the “Chancellor’s Choice”) and vanilla will be available. There will also be a variety of toppings and syrups available.
Will there be refreshments other than ice cream?
Fresh fruit and water will also be available for refreshments.
